Youth Ministry at First Presbyterian Church

Serving Jesus Christ, His Church, His World

Our Aim for Youth Ministry

Purpose: To grow kids who love Jesus and his family
"God wants us to grow up, to know the whole truth and tell it in love-like Christ in everything. We take our lead from Christ, who is the source of everything we do. He keeps us in step with each other. His very breath and blood flow through us, nourishing us so that we will grow up healthy in God, robust in love." Eph 4:15-16 (The Message)

We want to see kids grow in love of Christ and of his church. Growth comes in stages. Therefore, we have designed different parts of our ministry to address the different stages.

  1. SOWING
  2. This represents the first stages before kids commit themselves to Christ. They are invited and welcomed to: Young Life Club,  Wyldlife On Wednesday,   fun trips,  drama,  CAMP!!!
  3. GROWING
  4. This stage often begins with a camp experience and a decision to follow Christ. Activities here are designed to help the kids know Christ better and to follow him. They are: Sunday School with a strong worship component,  Campaigner groups (small groups for Bible study),  contact with adult leaders.
  5. BEARING FRUIT
  6. This stage is where the kids want to serve others because they understand how much Christ has done for them. The activities include: assisting in worship (e.g. reading, singing, ushering),  being a junior leader for Wyldlife,  mission trips,  drama.

Values

Worship

Its all about Jesus. We want to honor him in all that we say and do.

Commitment

Teenagers are in the midst of making life-decisions. We want to encourage them to make Christ the center and focus of their whole life.

Inclusion

We want all kids (churched or not)to feel welcome in our ministry and to find a place where they can be nurtured and serve Christ.

Relationships

Central to our ministry is the role of adult leaders who will meet the kids where they are and share Christ's love and gospel with them.

Service

We believe that kids have a real contribution to make to Christ's church and his kingdom. We want to enable kids to use their gifts for his purposes.
